in this i’m going to lightly analyse this song and then you guys can put what you think in the comments and tell me your thoughts too !
[Verse 1] I don’t always stay right on the track But somehow I know that I’ll come back See, I haven’t lost sight before
The first line is implying simply that she isn’t always able to stay on track of her life and how she feels, but what she does know is that it will be okay and come back to how it was “i haven’t lost sight before “ this could probably tie into later on where water and the sea is referenced “’Til I find the open sea” where in the end it always comes back around [the water cycle means that essentially the same water is coming back around]
Through woods where cicadas scream Then along a glistening stream ’Til I find the open sea Lying right there for me
in this she has went searching for what she is looking for, and the “glistening stream” and “open sea “ represent all of what the future holds for her, everything is set out for her so whatever comes will come and she knows she cant change it, because she wouldn't want to.
[Verse 2] Well, I’m not the only person looking for a clue I see by the footprints in the sand that you are too So maybe together we can find a path that’s really true
This means she knows that she isn’t the only one looking to find themselves, she can see that it is a long process, but she can see by example “by the footprints in the sand “ that people have done it before and it is possible. “so maybe together we can find the path that’s really true” the singer wants to figure this out with whoever she is talking to.
[Verse 3] And civilization marches on Occasionally prone to get it wrong Though it might seem we’re lost We never sit down too long
as the world turns and life develops people get things wrong but even so they are able to pick themselves back up and move on.
And if in the distance you see me Just know this is how it’s meant to be Now I have got this far I believe in the one true path
everything is meant to happen and that is just how it should be, she know believes that everyone has their one true path and should stick to it.
